Legal Nurse Consultants need to be skilled in producing high quality work product and, in many cases, organizing medical records.
Work Product
Work product refers to reports, memos, and other materials that reflect conclusions, opinions, or theories related to the case. Work product is confidential. You don't need to submit work product as answers to discovery requests or subpoenas.
For our purposes, work product refers to types of written reports commonly produced by in-house and independent Legal Nurse Consultants.
The type of reports that Legal Nurse Consultants create will depend on the circumstances of the medical-legal case and attorney preferences. This section of LNCtips.com gives you an overview of some common types of reports.
If you work in a law firm, you may be able to generate the types of reports that you think will be helpful without attorney approval. If you're an independent, you may need to obtain approval to generate specific reports, depending on your client. Some common types of reports are:
Medical Chronology
Medical Summary and Analysis
Timeline of Key Events
Calendars
Treater Lists
Touch Charts
And a few items that enhance reports are:
Tables and Charts
Images
Medical Record Organization
Organization of medical records makes them easier to review and helps identify gaps in the records. Read More.
